Over the last three decades, we have solidified our standing as the premier waterfront restaurant nestled in the warm embrace of West Bay, Cayman Islands. Throughout this timeless journey, we have been recognized by numerous accolades, including “Wine Spectator: Best Of Awards of Excellence - 2022.”
February 5th, 2024, marked a milestone moment for us. Our relentless efforts and culinary excellence were acknowledged and registered on the pages of an esteemed newspaper called the Caymanian Times.
We are thrilled to share this exclusive experience with you and encourage you to delve deep into our remarkable journey that stands as a testament to our commitment, hospitality, and brilliance.
Caymanian Times and The Wharf: An Unparalleled Experience by the Caribbean Sea
Not so recently, Caymanian Times organized a special interview with our operations manager, Luciano de Riso, where they chit-chatted about the rich past of our fine dining restaurant on the Grand Cayman Islands and how we transformed it into a most cherished establishment where diners are not only served delicious delights but an unforgettable experience.
As the conversation begins, Luciano explains — “We aren’t really just providing food for people; we are providing an experience.” “We try to couple the food (which is the highest quality you can get on the island), the location, the service, the wines, everything, so it is the entire experience.”
Our restaurant always strives to surpass the expectations of the diners with mouth-drooling delights, which are further enhanced by the picturesque views of the Caribbean Sea, blending like a dream with azure blue skies that highlight the gentle strokes of white clouds.
While the splendor of the serene surroundings contributes to an immersive experience, preserved vintages, decadent desserts, and a menu for dinner in Grand Cayman evoke a sensory pleasure, leaving our guests craving for more.
We have a variety of culinary delights from land and sea, including -
As for wine, we have an extensive selection of 900 elixirs by bottle, each representing a different region and a peculiar zest. They are ready to be popped open and delight the senses of the discerning palate with their incredible grape varietals and other ingredients infused to perfection.
As this one-on-one conversation unfolds, Luciano expresses, “Over the past few years, I have learned to appreciate how the history of the place is so important to us.”
“We often hear about how Cayman is losing its heritage, and here we are, the custodian of one of the finest pieces of Caymanian architecture and it has been here for over 100 years.”
When it comes to architecture, prepare to be awe-struck by our tropical theme, highlighting eye-pleasing shades of blue, red, white, and brown with a subtle touch of plants that creates serene imagery, making our restaurant the best place to eat in Grand Cayman.
While our space flaunts a contemporary flair with quirky design elements, we also combine them with traditional Caribbean influences to reflect a perpetual charm with a modern twist.
From wooden accents to rope handrails, elegant dining options in the Cayman Islands adorned with local artworks, to high ceilings and expansive window frames, we have incorporated a variety of aesthetics to offer a visually appealing experience.
Beyond the impressive infrastructure, our exteriors are abundant with swaying palm trees, pearl-white sand, and azure waters, alluring guests to immerse themselves in the captivating views like never before.
In the next segment, Luciano walks the team of Caymanian Times through the showstoppers of the Wharf, which are Boogie Nights and Salsa Tuesday.
He claims, “Although the Wharf stands out as the place where people go for Boogie Nights and salsa, there is so much more to the restaurant. There is no place closer to the water than The Wharf – the fish are swimming right under you! The different levels to the deck also add to the atmosphere. It feels more like the kind of restaurant people are looking for when they visit the Caribbean.”
Throughout the year, we host numerous events, including -
Tarpon Feeding is an adventure organized daily at The Wharf for all walks of life. Attendees can embrace the event from afar or engage with curious and swift creatures, Tarpons wading through the Caribbean waters.
Luciano conveys that our restaurant remains a perfect spot for diners seeking a friendly, relaxed service. At The Wharf, we always walk an extra mile to create an inviting atmosphere. We harmonize hospitality with modern comforts, giving our guests a home away from home vibe.
Our dedicated and pleasant staff constantly stays by your side to exhibit genuine care and impeccable services, ensuring your experience is nothing short of extraordinary.
In the end, Luciano adds, “But it’s not just that we have a beautiful view; we care for the location. We make it pleasant for people so they can enjoy the full experience with all their five senses,”
“I have worked in some of the most beautiful places in the world, but we are so proud of these restaurants. You see it in the eyes of the people who have not come there before when they say, “Wow! We’ve never seen anything like this before!” And that’s because there is nowhere else like these restaurants!
During the interview, the Caymanian Times graciously endorses this endeavor by stating, “Among Cayman’s multitude of excellent restaurants, Grand Old House and The Wharf stand out as two of the best, and, perhaps unusually for the restaurant sector, they have managed to maintain their top spot for all the decades that they have been in operation.”
We would like to extend our heartwarming gratitude to the Caymanian Times for giving us this opportunity and featuring our restaurant in their newspaper. We are honored to be acknowledged by such a prestigious publication and here’s to many more amazing moments and culinary surprises ahead.
